Day 31 – Matthew 7: 24-29
I can struggle with this passage, especially in terms of mission…because very often faith and mission, are tentative, easily shaken, tiny like a spark, sometimes not even that, but a seeking to find a firm place to plant your foot.
I try to think through illustrations of solid rock I need to build my faith and my mission on. However, as I search for words, I wonder if God likes the word “plodging” as much as me.
In water, up to your knees, but there is still something squishy and almost solid underneath, however, none of that works here, because I am looking for something physical and mission isn’t exactly physical.
It requires daring, it involves people and it’s relational, it goes against everything I know about that firm foundation, but somewhere in it, there has to be that unshakeability, so you dare to take the plunge.
Then time comes and you ask, what is that unshakeable thing that permits me to initiate even the simplest mission? What is it that gives me what I need even to make an attempt? Where do I look for that foundation?
Jesus said that whoever heard his words and obeyed Him, would be like a wise man who built on rock, that his house could never be torn down!!! It could never be moved!
He is the foundation we need to build our lives and our mission upon. In obeying Jesus, flood and tempest will not shake the work that he has directed us to do.
In daily life, in missions, wherever we have to step out and plant a foot, through faith and prayer, through relationship with Jesus Christ, we find that foundation, because Jesus is the foundation.
Help us to apply Your wisdom to our lives and to walk in Your ways. Our foundation will be unshakeable and storm-proof as you build our lives. Amen.
