Day 38 – 2 Corinthians 4: 1-7

Published by tg50-james on

In a world that focuses so much on the I or we it can be tempting in our mission to start with I or we, today’s reading reminds us that a life of mission is not so much about ourselves or what we can do, but the truth of Christ and how we display it. In the midst of all the injustice, and despair we see in our communities reflecting the Glory of Christ may seem difficult. A life of mission may seem challenging. But focusing on verse 5 and 6 reminds us all that we can and should live a life of mission. That the truth of Jesus as Lord is a light which can overcome any darkness. It’s a story that perfects our imperfection, it’s a truth that can right any wrongs. We have to remind ourselves daily, maybe even hourly that because we know Jesus we have some understanding of that light. That even when we struggle to see it, if we can turn to Jesus it will be revealed. Verse 7 reminds us that that light exists in clay jars, from the outside they may appear dull or unimportant but in reality the light they contain is transformational. God calls each of us to a life of mission, wherever we are, whatever our circumstance, no matter how simple or dull our jar may seem, because in reality it allows us to see the light and be changed by it. Spend less time worrying about whether you’re doing it right, spend more time focusing on experiencing and demonstrating the light.

Even when darkness surrounds us Lord we pray that your light would empower us to live a life of mission and would shine from us, our hearts are open, let us be for you the clay jars that this world needs.
