Day 5 – Luke 9: 1-6
In the last few days, we have been looking at the calling of the disciples when they left everything behind and followed Jesus. Today, Jesus has called them again and sent them out to proclaim the Kingdom of God without taking anything with them. This is where their faith is being tested once again.
Faith is more than believing. Sometimes we just have to take a step of faith in order to experience God’s grace. The disciples had been observing how Jesus demonstrated His power and authority throughout His ministries. However, they had never tried doing similar thing at this point. Now that Jesus has given them His power and authority, the disciples themselves have to try out whether it actually works or not, with the risk of failure.
Perhaps we are in the same situation as these disciples. We have observed how other Christians have been showing God’s power and authority in their lives, but we have never tried it out ourselves: probably because we do not have enough faith and are afraid to take any risks. Imagine if they had been too scared to take that step of faith for the first time to do their ministries. Would the history of Christianity have been changed entirely?
Today, we all have a responsibility in this great mission given by God, to proclaim God’s name among all nations and to make people Jesus’ disciples. Thus, we should prepare ourselves, so that when God calls us, we can go ahead to take this step of faith and experience God’s grace along the way.
Dear Lord, thank you for giving us Your power and authority. Please help us to trust in You and be brave.
